Loving the new style of the place, I have always liked the Winchester because of its chilled out attitude and the atmosphere is always really friendly. It has just been redesigned and is better than ever with its fresh new look, still offering great cocktails on Thursday which are 2 for 1!
I went in to check out the new a la carte menu I actually had 3 courses for £18.00 which I have to say is ridiculously well priced particularly considering the standard of the food we ate. I started with asparagus wrapped in parma ham with parmesan and hollandaise sauce....yummy! then I enjoyed what I can only call a masterpiece...it arrived and I was in awe of its beauty! [you have to see it to understand!] I had Lamb medallions wrapped in filo pastry with sweet red pepper sauce and spinach...it was really delicious...I thought dessert was going to tip me over the edge but I had to squeeze it in and I am so glad that I did.I had the pancake with banana and butterscotch sauce, simple yet mouth wateringly good! Its the food that you put in your mouth and just really, REALLY enjoy...
anyway, moving swiftly on from my delightful food experience, the staff were really helpful and kept serving us tray after tray of cocktails. Personal favourites from the cocktail list were the Peary Mason [Rhubarb Jam, fresh pear with rhubarb liqueur, Pear Vodka...and other things I cant remember!] it was good anyway...my friend had the thai tanic which she also enjoyed to the extent of having 4 more! It was pretty unusual, coriander, lime and ginger with cachaca, very refreshing though.
The decor is much brighter than before and the new toilets are really lovely!
They havent lost the old Winchester feel but it is still jammed full with interesting and quirky items to look at...I really love the upside down table on the ceiling which has been converted into a light with a top hat lamp shade!? very cool...
I havent been in at the weekend yet but if it anything like the old days Im sure it will be a good party vibe with lots of dancing in the basement bar until the early hours.
Big thumbs up from me and my buddy! :)

if you arrive here before 9pm on friday and saturday nights you don't have to pay the 5 pound entrance, and if you're looking for a fun but fairly chilled night out with the possibility of dancing through til the wee hours of the morning (it's open til 4.30 on friday and saturday and there is a dance floor down stairs!!) this is the place to go! the upstairs bar is pretty small so expect to queue for drinks. all in all i am a big fan of this place cos it has such a pleasant atmosphere and is very reasonably priced...
Interesting, random old world hunting lodge decor combines with an extensive cocktail menu & brilliant meze platters (especially the moroccan style vegetarian option - im not a vegetarian and its fantastic!) to make a fun quirky place for drinks and food.

The two-for-one deal at The Winchester is a good start. You can get two hearty roast dinners for 12, which is a rare and welcome find in London. The service is generally friendly and after a not unreasonable wait, youll find yourself presented with a rather inviting-looking Sunday lunch. The vegetarian option is also a pleasant surprise. The nut roast is moist and packed with flavour and even the staunchest carnivore will want to sneak a taste. Visit The Winchester and youll find it hard to leave. If the laid-back atmosphere and free jukebox doesnt keep you well-settled on a sofa, then the well-thought out cocktail menu and enthusiastic barman with an obsession for Red Russians will almost certainly see you sticking around into Monday morning.
